Green and Gold Energy places 105MW concentrator solar cell order with EMCORE

Green and Gold Energy (GGE) has placed a follow-on order for 3 million
concentrator solar cell units, equivalent to 105MW of energy from
EMCORE Corporation. The 105 MW purchase order is valued at $24 million
and is claimed to be the largest procurement of concentrator solar
cells in the industry to date. All hardware ordered under this contract
is to be shipped by the end of 2008, according to EMCORE.

“EMCORE’s CPV solar cells are optimized for our customers’ systems to
yield state-of-the-art performance with the lowest cost per kW-hr,”
stated David Danzilio, Vice President and General Manager of EMCORE’s
Photovoltaics Division. “This 105 MW production contract confirms
EMCORE’s position as the leader in concentrator cell technology and
high volume manufacturing. EMCORE is committed to continually investing
in our concentrator cell technology and further expansion of our
manufacturing capacity to meet the growing requirements of present and
future customers.”

EMCORE has claimed that its Concentrator Triple-Junction (CTJ) solar
cells have demonstrated record conversion efficiency of 39 percent
under high concentration conditions. The company is continuing to
develop the technology to exceed 40 percent efficiencies in the future.

EMCORE’s 70,000 sq.ft. factory, located in Albuquerque, NM can produce over
200,000 4-inch diameter wafers (150kW) of 4-inch solar panels annually.
